WHO DO YOU HONOR?
Besides my first cup of coffee in the morning I enjoy reading the headlines on two top newspapers and reviewing the Christian news online. After reflection today on the unanswerable problems the world is faced with and the incredible cruelty that Humans are capable of doing I had to ask what is a positive step that people can take.
We have been looking at the role model of Jesus for leadership but have not touched on the Honor He gave His Father. Why would one who could master the skies, cast out demons, raise the dead, and create wealth with a simple blessings give honor to someone else?
We see this deferential awareness of Jesus to the unseen Creator and Father in all that He did. We do not get a feeling of haughtiness or arrogance about Jesus yet He could claim superiority in any situation. His secret was in the knowledge of himself and His trust in the one who sent Him. Scripture tells us that He put off His glory as God to become a man. He was God yet man. He operated as a man anointed of God..
John 17:24 I brought glory to you here on earth by doing everything you told me to do. And now, Father, bring me into the glory we shared before the world began.
What a wonder that He would leave us this model to follow.
The newspapers are full of dishonor. The voice of sarcasm, criticism, and a belittling of anything noble is a plague of information that floods the airways and the hearts of millions. What can be done? Start by considering who you have honored, respected, admired, esteemed, valued, and obeyed in the past. We should always start with our parents. It is the first commandment that comes with a blessing and brings great joy and peace in the family structure. We honor parents for the fact of being our parents.
If you are wise then you continue to honor your spouse. A home full of honor, appreciation and admiration will be without stress as well as full of joy. I have been blessed all my life with people to honor. My first tennis coach put qualities of discipline, fortitude, attitude, and resilience in me as we shoveled snow to play tennis in the Michigan winter. I honor him for that time in the formative years of life. It was time He did not have to give and could never be paid for. I honor my college tennis coach. He was difficult for many to get along with but I had no problem. He was a good man and worthy of respect. I soon became a college coach at the age of 22 and greatly appreciated the example He set as well as understood the discipline he imposed when I was faced with the same problems he had.
There were key people in my spiritual growth that all put invaluable, priceless qualities in me that could never be repaid. My first spiritual mentor was K. Hagin who lived faith before me. Priceless. My first pastor was R. Tidwell who gave me opportunity and daily discipline for the daily work of church. Invaluable experience. My current mentor of T.L. Osborn instilled the keys to World Evangelism and Miracle Ministry that continue to impact the nations as we press forward toward helping and healing the hurting of the world. I also honor friends who have achieved great accomplishments as entrepreneurs in industry and finance. I honor them for their effort in discovering how to navigate the streets of success when so many fall into ditches. Their insights are invaluable.
You draw to yourself what you honor. You push away from yourself that which you dishonor. If you criticize the rich you will push them away. If you criticize the Bible you will not reverence the life it wants to bring you. Honor is a way of life that will bring you great reward.
